WISE-World Institute for Society and the Environment

WISE Activities and Services
The WISE Approach [1] is highly participatory, transdisciplinary, visionary yet actioned with practical solutions, and systems-based across society, from organizations and municipalities to governments and the global community. We are focused on resolving the root causes of the climate, biodiversity, ecosystem, and human welfare 'polycrises' and transforming them into opportunities to revolutionize humanity’s relationship with the Earth. Our goal is to embed and mainstream Nature-centrism across society for a healthier world for all its inhabitants.
Our Activities and Services Include:
-
Value Transformation – We are creating and advancing a global ethic and blueprint for value transformation in society to Nature-centrism via the WISE Approach [1] and principles of:
i) Mutualism and equitable reciprocity between people and Nature.
ii) Respect, intrinsic value and sanctity of Nature and nonhuman species.
iii) Global communal responsibility for and stewardship and protection of Nature.
iv) Interdependence and interconnectedness of Nature and society’s economic, social, governing, industrial, and other subsystems within the finite limits of the environment.
v) Nature-centric beliefs, attitudes, choices, actions, behavior, and decision-making.
-
Partnerships – We are creating, facilitating and nurturing supra-organizational conservation and Nature-centric collaborations and partnerships at local, national and global levels for all of this work.
-
Advocacy – We are leading and engage in public advocacy initiatives and campaigning for the WISE principles and goals for value transformation, the Half-Earth and Nature Needs Half paradigms, embedding and weaving Nature-centrism into the fabric of society, and scientifically informed wise integration Nature in society with 100% ecological sustainability.
-
Policy – We are engaging with policy-makers to draft new Nature-centric policies, decision-making frameworks, organizational structures, constitutions, Bill(s) of Rights, white papers, and other work for society that is soundly based in Nature-centric principles and socially and culturally sensitive, equitable and just.
-
Innovation – We are facilitating Nature-centric think-tanks, incubators and research for enduring solutions, green technology and enterprises.
-
Expert Advising and Consulting – We provide expertise in Nature-centric strategic planning, frameworks, governing, restructuring, and process implementation of the WISE Approach[1]. This includes Authentic Transformative Service organization and public leadership models that facilitate internal and external value transformation and public leadership to achieve Nature-centric decision-making, policies, and frameworks along with the Half-Earth paradigm, Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), World Conservation Congress Motion 101, and other national and global targets, including via restoration, rewilding, community-based conservation, National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans (NBSAP), Nationally Determined Contributions (NCD), and other Nature-based Solutions.
This advising and consulting is provided on a sliding scale: Free for organizations with annual budgets less than $100,000/year, and up to a maximum of 10% above cost of service for larger organizations. Any proceeds after costs are used to support the WISE nonprofit mission and programs.
